Mayr-Melnhof Holz invests €130m in new CLT plant at Leoben

Mayr-Melnhof Holz launched into the new year announcing a major investment to build a new cross-laminated timber (CLT) production facility in Leoben, the largest investment in the history of the group.

Together with the existing CLT location in Gaishorn, Mayr-Melnhof Holz plans to meet the increasing demand for timber construction solutions in residential and industrial construction. The federal government, the state of Styria and the city of Leoben pledged their support, providing an important impetus for the region's economy.

Over the next three years there is an additional plan to build a high-performance secondary sorting and planing mill adjacent to the existing sawmill in Leoben which will also be modernised.

"The raw material supply through the Styrian forests, the existing infrastructure, well-trained workforce and the sawn timber supply through the directly adjacent sawmill make Leoben the ideal location for this future investment, which with the CO2-neutral material wood also makes an important contribution to sustainability and active climate protection.” said Richard Stralz, CEO of Mayr-Melnhof Holz Holding AG.
