Rougier sales dip in first half

15 August 2012

Rougier’s sawn timber and plywood sales declined 5.4% and 6% respectively in the first half of 2012, according to the Paris-based company’s latest results.

Rougier, which specialises in tropical timber from Africa, said sawn timber sales dipped to €37.2m due to a contraction in the French market and the slowdown of shipments from Gabon.

Sawn timber made up 50.7% of total sales during the period. Plywood sales – which accounted for 21.3% of consolidated sales – fell to €15.7m and were also affected by slowing demand in Europe.

The group’s log sales increased 14.7%. Total group turnover was down 0.5% from a year ago at €73.8m.
