Sydenhams acquires Snows Timber’s Glastonbury site

The 12-acre site began trading as Sydenhams on March 1. Charles Sherborne, Sydenham’s joint managing director, said he was very excited with the acquisition.

“This represents a fantastic opportunity to grow the Sydenhams estate further,” he said.

“Like ourselves, Snows are a well-established and respected name within the timber industry and date back to the late 1800’s, so [acquiring this site] is a good fit with our current portfolio.

“Glastonbury itself is a fantastic site and will fit in perfectly with our existing branch network, whilst also giving us the opportunity to supply into new locations and to new customers.”

Sydenhams says Glastonbury will become a complete one-stop shop for timber related products and the company would be looking quickly to enhance both the service and product offering given.

This acquisition brings Sydenhams up to 32 branches overall including its builders merchants, timber centres, tool and plant hire centres, kitchen & bathroom showrooms, as well as flooring and timber engineering sides of the business.

Snows’ association with Glastonbury goes back to the 1800s when it started as a small coal and wood merchant in Glastonbury.

Snows Timber streamlined its business last year with the closure of its Dudley Distribution Centre and an investment of £500,000 into its Mansfield Distribution Centre, the latter of which increased the site’s stockholding and picking and milling capabilities.

Its restructuring programme also involved the centralisation of its regional sales offices (based at each distribution centre) into one national sales office at Towcester, Northamptonshire.
