It's good to talk

Kevin Riley, Finnforest vice-president construction industry, hails the Building Centre's Wood Talks series

The Building Centre’s ‘Wood Talks’ seminar programme is now under way, delivering a comprehensive schedule of informative seminars directly to an architectural audience. Looking at various market sectors, from school building to leisure facilities, the events allow industry professionals to engage directly with attendees, discussing issues at a project level.

Finnforest is providing some valuable insights into the specification of engineered timber as part of the programme. Held in April, “Schools – meeting the brief with wood”, was attended by more than 100 delegates. This precedes the forthcoming “Elegant interiors with wood” seminar in September and “Wood sells – how wood has been embraced by the retail sector”.

Comprising a set of three seminar layouts, morning, evening and short breakfast meetings, the Wood Talks allow attendees to visit a variety of seminars, workshops and lectures throughout the schedule. The format is proven to be highly successful and Finnforest is pleased to be involved with this dedicated Building Centre programme of events.

Tailored for specifiers of timber products and systems, the talks are enabling Finnforest to explain both the applications and benefits of the portfolio of engineered timber systems. A dedicated seminar series of this nature allows key projects to be highlighted with the detailed solutions that made each one possible, helping to create and further the understanding of those present by engaging in project discussion to help illustrate the use of timber.

Ideal for use in demanding structural applications, timber is able to provide both the aesthetic and strong, robust qualities needed from a building material. It has risen in profile to become mainstream and, in a lot of cases, the product of choice for architects. The Wood Talks allow architects and designers to see how engineered timber systems can be used in almost any challenging situation to provide a building material to rival alternative products.

? The next seminar takes place at 6.30pm on June 30 when Dixon Jones Architects, along with Arup Acoustics, will talk about the Kings Place Concert Hall project.
