Although economic growth has slowed, forest industry production has risen

In the second quarter sawn timber production was at the same level as a year ago. Plywood production was up 6%. Ownership of Moelven has changed as three Finnish forest owners' associations and one Swedish association have sold their shares. Finnforest's parent Metsäliitto now owns 16%. UPM-Kymmene and Stora Enso are investing in China and building sawmills in Russia. Stora Enso has plans to build three more mills in Latvia, Lithuania and Russia.
