The Builders Merchants Federation (BMF) has launched its Environmental Code to enable its members to deal with customer queries about the environment.

The code, launched at the organisation’s recent Members’ Day, has been designed to offer guidance and advice to companies faced with questions about the environmental credentials of products and services.

Taking the form of a code of procedures, BMF said that the code can be integrated with existing internal management systems as well as being “the basic blueprint for a full Code of Environmental Good Practice”.

BMF added that the environment was a key theme for its second annual Members’ Day, with keynote speaker Alan Cherry, chairman of Countryside Properties, addressing sustainability and its influence on home building and building materials.
