Arnold Laver Timber World has signed up to the Timber Trade Federation‘s (TTF) Responsible Purchasing Policy (RPP) to help give customers “peace of mind” about its timber supply chain.

The company said the move represents a step up in its environmmental commitment. All its 14 branches, except the north-east, have already received Forest Stewardship Council and the Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification chain of custody certification.

Within the RPP, Arnold Laver has to prove it obtains as much legal and sustainable raw material as possible which is independently verified by a third party such as the FSC or PEFC.

Staff are also required to assess their suppliers’ environmental responsibilities based on a series of questionnaires and documentary evidence.

Timber World will then cease trading with all high-risk suppliers and work with medium-risk companies to help them become low risk, with the ultimate aim of providing 100% certified stock.

Pat Burke, Arnold Laver’s group purchasing director, said: “We feel it is our responsibility to the environment to obtain and supply an ever-increasing proportion of legally and sustainably produced timber products.”

So far, 29 of the TTF’s 160 members have signed up to the RPP.
