International Timber has beaten off other contenders to again win the HM Prison contract worth an estimated £2m.
The three-year deal, which begins this month, will see International Timber supplying hardwood to all Prison Service prisons in England and Wales.
The news is a further boost to the company which has already got off to a strong start to 2002 with full order books.
It is also investing in excess of £250,000 to upgrade facilities at its Trafford Park mill.
International Timber has serviced the HM Prison contract since 1999 and had to go up against a number of other candidates in a multiple tendering process when the contract came up for renewal.
The company will supply rough sawn timber in a variety of hardwood species, sizes and grades. It is manufactured by prisoners into furniture for internal use as well as external sales into the commercial sector.
International Timber’s commercial director Tony Miles said: ‘The HM Prison contract is a complex account to service and so we are delighted to be successful in the tendering process.
‘Our focus on the service angle has been pivotal to our success, working closely throughout our business to deliver optimum service levels, product range, specifications and reduce wastage.
‘We will also be working closely with the Prison Service during the contract period to enable them to meet their environmental objectives,’ he said.
