Timber importer and merchant Sykes Timber has welcomed former James Latham MD Chris Sutton as non-executive director as it celebrates its 165th anniversary and continues its growth ambitions.
The company, now led by the sixth generation of the Sykes family, said Mr Sutton’s experience and commercial insight would be a valuable addition as it seeks to build on the its strong foundations.
“Chris brings a wealth of experience from across the timber industry, including his time as Managing Director of James Latham plc, with a strong track record in leadership, strategy and business growth,” it said.
“His appointment comes at an exciting time for Sykes Timber, as we continue to grow and strengthen the business while maintaining the quality, service and expertise that have always been at the heart of what we do.”
As well as Mr Sutton’s involvement and the marking of the 165th anniversary, Sykes has completed a stunning new purpose-built office and education facility at the Atherstone site in Warwickshire, “representing another significant investment in the continued development of the business”.
At the heart of the building is a new Timber Education & Specification Centre – a dedicated space for timber merchants, architects, designers, contractors and customers to view and discuss timber species, grades, applications and specifications, drawing on the knowledge and experience of the Sykes team.
“The investment reflects both the continued growth of Sykes Timber and our long-term commitment to the timber industry,” it said.
