Jewson boss completes mammoth Marmotte

29 June 2011

Jewson’s managing director, Peter Hindle, has completed the gruelling La Marmotte cycling challenge through the French Alps to raise £15,000 for Jewson’s ‘together’ charity partner Barnardos.

Mr Hindle, who has represented Great Britain in cycling, was joined by Mick Ives of international cycling team MI racing. Their challenge began in Lyon and covered 106 miles and 10,000ft of climbing, across three of the most famous peaks in France. They completed the ride in nine hours.

“Although there must be easier ways of fund-raising, this is my way of helping to raise money for a worthy cause,” said Mr Hindle. “Jewson branches around the UK will be holding their own events and challenges across the next two years to raise further funds for the charity."

Since its launch in 2002, Jewson's 'together' charity programme has raised over £2m for some great causes including the British Heart Foundation, Great Ormond Street, Cancer Research UK and Help the Hospices. The programme encourages Jewson staff, their families, customers and suppliers to organise and participate in a range of activities to support the nominated charity through fund-raising and volunteering.
