Jewson buys Castle Timber and Merton Timber

Two independent timber and builders merchants have been acquired in London by Jewson in a move which will boost the latter’s branch network in the capital by 15 outlets.

Jewson said the acquisition of the businesses would guaranteed a strong healthy network of Jewson branches in the London area and ensure trade professionals were never far away from a branch.

Jewson was not able to give TTJ an idea of its plans for the new acquisitions but it is understood that the Jewson name and branding will be rolled out to the branches.

Castle Timber, founded in 1993, has branches in Acton, Battersea, Bow , Kentish Town and White City and includes hardwood flooring division Castle Wood Floors. Much of its business is within the M25 and it operates a 30-strong delivery vehicle fleet.

Wimbledon-based Merton Timber has been operating for more than 30 years and also has a strong presence within the M25 and in the Southeast. Branches include Dulwich, Mitcham, Sutton, Orpington, Epsom, Weybridge and Twickenham.

Its operations include timber treatment and machining services.

“The incorporation of Castle Timber and Merton Timber into the Jewson network ensures that customers in the London area are now never more than five miles from a branch,” said Mike Lamb, Jewson area director for London.

Jewson also recently became the building material supplier of choice for Luton Borough Council in a move designed to streamline the latter’s programmed maintenance and reactive repair service to council houses and operational buildings.
