Chief secretary to the Treasury Danny Alexander visited the BSW Timber mill at Boat of Garten to highlight the Government’s commitment to manufacturing.

The local MP for Inverness, Nairn, Badenoch & Strathspey, met BSW chairman Martin Gale and mill manager Dave Mills.

"We had constructive dialogue around our support for the Grown in Britain initiative, which highlights the huge potential of forestry products manufactured in the UK, using trees grown in the UK," said Mr Gale.

BSW is investing £70m in a five-year programme to modernise its manufacturing facilities. The Boat of Garten mill produces 92,000m3 of sawn timber a year and employs 70 people, with a further 200 supporting jobs in the local economy.
