Obituary - Andrew Venman

30 September 2009

Jewson’s environmental manager Andrew Venman, one of the leading pioneers of the UK’s sustainable timber industry, has sadly passed away following a 12-month battle with cancer.

Mr Venman joined Montague L Meyer as a trainee in October 1976 and quickly carved a niche in the purchasing side of the business, particularly within the softwood arena. When Montague L Meyer changed to Meyer International, he became part of the central purchasing team and when Saint-Gobain acquired the company in 2000, he became a fundamental player in shaping the Jewson’s sustainability agenda in his role as environmental manager.

Valued by his peers and held in high regard equally for his significant knowledge on sustainable timber and affable character, Mr Venman built up a vast wealth of experience throughout his 33-year career. His death will be deeply felt.

He is survived by his wife, Shirley, and two teenage daughters.
