STA rolls out timber frame tours for housebuilders

The Structural Timber Association (STA) is rolling out a series of tours at UK timber frame house manufacturers from November 12-December 10 to show housebuilders how they can capitalise on the build method in light of block shortages.

The tours, starting at Kingspan Timber Solutions in Sandy on November 12, are also a response to an upturn in the housing market and designed to encourage long-term use of timber in construction.

The STA has invited housebuilding industry leaders to the factory tours at a range of its member locations across the UK.

STA chairman Lawrence Young said the return of fast build programmes to housebuilders' agendas and the potential of severe weather in the coming months were of benefit to the timber construction sector.

"While timber frame won't eliminate all delays it will certainly shorten time to market and ensure developers have homes for sale at the right time," he said.

The tours will finish at Taylor Lane's factory in Hereford on December 10.
