Allwood Machinery Essex Ltd has bought the spares and accessories of liquidated woodworking machinery distributor Interwood Ltd.
Allwood, based at Maldon, will continue to recondition Interwood routers and presses, as well as supplying all the spare parts for the complete range of Interwood manufactured machines.
Peter Whitehead, managing director of Allwood, said: ‘As ex-Interwood trained engineers we hope this service will be of great interest to existing Interwood customers.’
He believes the purchase, for an undisclosed sum, will make ‘a lot of difference’ to Allwood’s business, estimating that 80% of UK joinery factories have Interwood machines.
Since the purchase, Mr Whitehead said calls have come in ‘every day’ from new customers, including one from Toronto.
Allwood is also looking at gaining the intellectual rights to Interwood so it can use the name and telephone number and eventually manufacture spare parts. Current stocks may last for 18 months to two years.
Mr Whitehead, originally an Interwood engineer, helped form Allwood 20 years ago.
Interwood’s demise was attributed to changing trends and an increasing emphasis by global manufacturers on setting up their own regional sales offices.
