The Bursgreen woodworking machinery brand is being resurrected in the UK thanks to a new partnership between Leicester-based Advanced Machinery Services (AMS) and Czech manufacturer Rojek.
The move, part of AMS’s plan to match its core machine servicing business with a growing machine sales operation, follows AMS’s long search for a suitable manufacturer after acquiring the intellectual property rights for the Bursgreen brand in 2010.
The machines will be badged Bursgreen by Rojek and will include three product groups: the KDR range for hobbyists and disposable onsite applications, the Euro Series 7 ranges for the semi-professional or small workshops and the industry series professional range designed for large woodworking facilities.
Rojek machines were previously available in the UK through a tool distributor, which had been focused on the semi-professional market rather than the mainstream woodworking sector.
“Now we are the sole UK distributor, this will change as our focus will be firmly on the woodworking industry,” said AMS director Steve Foster.
The range will be sold via a nationwide network of distributors. SW Woodwork Machinery in the north-east, Dennis Price Woodworking in Yorkshire and Grovewood Machinery in Hampshire have already been signed up, with a network of 12 distributors being targeted.
“This partnership with Rojek is absolutely key to the future of our business and we are investing heavily to ensure its success,” said fellow AMS director Steve McGloin.
AMS set up a dedicated Bursgreen hotline for technical support and invested heavily in spare parts inventory.
It has also doubled its stand space for this year’s W12 woodworking show at the NEC in October in order to show the Bursgreen range. It will also exhibit at Timber Expo.
A new purpose-built facility in Leicestershire, to house the head office, showroom and training facilities, has been commissioned and will be open at the end of 2012.
Bursgreen, established in 1931, was acquired by Wadkin in 1956, becoming Wadkin Bursgreen. The Bursgreen factory was shut in 1993 when production was transferred to Wadkin’s Leicester facility.
