The Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is examining how changes in insurance arrangements might better promote health and safety among UK companies.
It says the two main systems of financial compensation for workplace injuries and illness, Industrial Injuries Disablement Benefit and the Employers’ Liability Insurance, offer little or no incentive for companies to improve their safety record.
The HSE has conducted research, including surveying comparable overseas systems, and will now promote discussion of the findings in association with the insurance industry, business, trade unions and the government.
