Flood waters were no match for one intrepid customer in the town of Tewkesbury, who used a 4×4 to traverse the flooded yard of Tewkesbury Saw Co Ltd in order to get his woodworking tools sharpened.
Managing director of Tewkesbury Saw Bruce Keen related the story to John Hutton MP, secretary of state for business, enterprise and regulatory reform, who visited the flood-hit town on August 6.
Mr Keen said the event took place just five days after the Avon and Severn rivers burst their banks, with the firm able to help the customer despite being locked out of its own workshop.
“He made it through the water in a 4×4 just five days after the flood had wreaked havoc with our showroom and offices and wanted blades sharpening,” said Mr Keen.
“Our workshop was closed for health and safety reasons but we were able to use another workshop nearby that escaped damage.”
Mr Keen, whose company supplies industrial woodworking saws and tools, is also the chairman of Tewkesbury Chamber of Commerce.
