Primed MDF mouldings manufacturer Universal Wood Products Ltd has credited new denibbing technology with improving throughput and finish quality of mouldings.

The Romford company bought a customised Quick Wood machine from Gibbs-Sandtech Ltd to replace an older denibbing machine on its production line.

Universal, which also manufactures furniture components and cabinet doors, says the Quick Wood has also improved production efficiency and reduced set-up times.

During the past two years, the company has invested about £120,000 in technology, including a Talbott TMA burner to dispose of MDF dust and a dust extraction system from Inventair Fabrications Ltd. The investments have resulted in a 20% growth in turnover.

Universal has just obtained Forest Stewardship Council chain of custody certification.
