Baldock-based Valley Joinery opted for the top-of-the-range Striebig Evolution to replace an existing wall saw which was not powerful enough for the work and which was cutting out of square.

Its Evolution 5168 was custom-made with a low height frame in order to fit within a gap in the mill beneath a mezzanine floor.

The unit has a maximum cutting size of 4300x1680mm and can cut panels 80mm deep. Sheet material typically cut on the machine includes MDF and veneered MDF ranging from 6-30mm thick, as well as chipboard and solid core door blanks from 45-54mm thick.

Other features of the saw, supplied by Leicester-based TM Machinery Sales Ltd, include a digital measuring system, automatic roller locking function and three additional auxiliary stops for repeat cuts and small workpiece support.

Striebig saw are available from £8,300-25,000.
