Associated British Ports Holdings (ABP) has announced a 32% increase in timber handling at Ayr and Troon this year thanks to the Timber Link scheme.

ABP said the scheme, which involves timber being transported to the ports via waterways instead of roads, was the main factor in the increase.

The company also announced an 8% increase in pre-tax profits for the six months ending June 30. It made £66.5m from group turnover on continuing operations up 11% at £202.1m.
