Timber decking has been installed on a suspended car park roof at Liberty Park – a student accommodation project in Leicester.

The decking, supplied by HLD Ltd of Gainsborough, was installed by Frost Landscape Construction Ltd on a podium on top of the car park six metres above ground level. Blocks of flats open on to the decked and landscaped area, creating a courtyard.

HLD provided a range of complex external timber structures for the courtyard, including bespoke heavy-duty planters, a free-standing pergola with Octawood screening and specially designed bench seating. All products had to be supplied to a tight six-week schedule.

The decking is the company’s Antislip Plus, featuring grip strips inlaid in the grooves to improve slip resistance.

Shaun Porter, of Frost Landscape, said: “This was a difficult project and the podium landscape was constructed in a very tight timescale. Things were made more challenging by the fact that there were several other trades working to the same deadline throughout the building.”
