US exports of OSB have gone through the roof during the first nine months of 2007 as producers seek new markets to compensate for low domestic demand, according to industry newsletter Random Lengths.

Exports reached 81 million ft² during the period, with Turkey the largest destination, accounting for 15 million ft².

The UK was the next biggest at 14 million ft², with Russia at 12.6 million ft². Both countries’ OSB imports from the US were “next to nothing” in previous years, says Random Lengths.

Japan has been traditionally the largest importer of the product, but its shipments this year have been low.

Record export volumes were set in 1997, when 93.6 million ft² was exported.
