The completion of the purpose built facility at the company’s Skeffington Mill premises in Leicestershire will be followed by an overhaul of the whole site.
The new “low carbon footprint” building, will house 18 new and refurbished machines, including planers, thicknessers, CNC routers, moulders, grinders, vertical panel saws and tenoners.
The company desribed it as a “significant investment” in its future which was needed to keep pace with demand.
“AMS has seen tremendous growth over the last few years, and is 15% ahead of target in 2014,” said director Steve McGloin co-director and founder with Steve Foster of the seven-year-old business. “We will also be increasinG our 18-strong workforce.”
He said both new and used machinery would be on show in the new unit.
All the equipment will also be connected to a dust extraction system, enabling the building to double as a training facility, in effect a fully-equipped woodworking plant.
Training is in increasing demand too, said Mr McGloin.
“And from our perspective, having money tied up in stock is expensive, so we want to use the showroom for training purposes as well.”
The company is continuing its four-year association with training specialist Didac to run courses from one day to 12 months in length at the facility. “AMS is centrally located and ideal for compaies in the Midlands and North to send staff for training,” said Didac managing director Jon Gibson.
“Our two Nottingham-based trainers will deliver courses to those in work needing refresher courses and up-skilling and also unemployed people looking to gain qualifications to move into the industry.”
AMS has also just added an own-brand vertical panel saw to its range which is new to the UK.
Badged Primus, with a livery shared with AMS’ Bursgreen and Bursgreen Kentwood labels, the 4100mmx2100mm machine will be the first of a family of “small footprint” saws, featuring scoring saws and LED displays as standard. They are manufactured in Europe.
