Sports architect David Morley is the latest recruit to speak at TRADA’s In Touch with Timber conference on May 20.

Mr Morley whose projects include a 9,700m² athletics centre for Enfield & Haringey Athletics Club, will talk about his experience working with timber on sports and residential projects and its potential applications for the London 2012 Olympics.

“Timber has been a traditional material used for sports buildings for many years, but usually on a small scale,” said Mr Morley.

“Recent developments with three-dimensional engineering have now made timber a fantastic material for freeform longer span structures as well.”

Mr Morley, an awards and competition assessor for the Royal Institute of British Architects, will be joined at the conference by speakers including Forestry Commission chairman Lord David Clark and Olympic Delivery Authority director of procurement Morag Stuart.

The conference takes place at the Queen Elizabeth II Conference Centre.
