Biesse said it attended a special event at Howdens’ headquarters in Runcorn to mark the investment, which involved two panel machining lines being installed at the Runcorn and Howden factories.

The Italian company said the machinery was capable of producing 220 cabinets per hour.

It features two automatic lines for cutting and four lines for automatic edgebanding and drilling.

"For Biesse to have obtained recognition from such an important customer as Howdens Joinery is a further incentive to focus on our systems division," it said.

Biesse said it would continue to develop innovative products and ideas as a business partner to leading companies in the timber and furniture industries.

The two-year project at Howdens was one of the largest UK furniture production investments in recent years.

The new plants are helping position Howdens for growth over the coming years.
