The world’s largest protected tropical forest area has been created in Brazil, aided by a US$1m donation from the WWF.
The newly created 39,000km2 Tumucumaque National Park means that 1% of the Amazon forest in Brazil is now protected and this is seen as a significant step towards achieving the Brazilian government’s target of protecting at least 10% of its forests.
