Demolition work has begun at the former Arjo Wiggins paper mill at Fort Wlliam, Scotland.
BSW Timber bought the site in 2006 and is intending to build what could be the UK’s largest sawmill with double the capacity of its current Fort William facility.
Hunter Demolition has been contracted to carry out the demolition work, which is scheduled to be completed by July.
BSW is to invest £26m at the Fort William site, which will include the introduction of new secondary processing facilities such as kilns and treatment equipment and a new sawmill.
Architect Kearney Donald Partnership was appointed to the development in August 2007, with the planning application and master plan submitted to the Highland Council in December 2007.
