Confidence in British Woodworking Federation (BWF) standards helped a Liverpool joinery firm land a social housing contract worth about £40,000.

Preferred Joinery Ltd, a BWF member, supplied doors, entrance screens, windows and staircases for the CDS housing scheme, which comprised the refurbishment of a large Victorian building and the construction of two blocks of flats on adjoining land.

The project team opted for timber on the basis of appearance and in the confidence that units produced to BWF standards were high quality and with good maintenance charateristics.

Refurbishment work involved the fabrication of 20 large sliding sash windows, while the new build features modern casement windows.

Entrance screens measured 2.4m in length and included up to three vision panels as well as softwood or hardwood door blanks. Three sets of staircases were fitted in one of the new buildings.
