The curtailment represents about 80 million board feet of lumber and 300 million ft2 of OSB on an annualised basis.
Canfor‘s PolarBoard OSB mill in Fort Nelson started the shutdown on February 16 and will start up again on March 5.
The company’s Mackenzie sawmill will take a week of downtime starting February 26, while the Plateau sawmill in Vanderhoof has moved from a three-shift to a two-shift schedule.
“The lumber and panel markets today are extremely difficult,” said Canfor president and CEO Jim Shepherd. “Add to the mix the disruption of a CN rail strike which requires us to change our operating plan.
“We are confident that we will be able to maintain all of our customer commitments.”
