The British Woodworking Federation (BWF) is urging builders’ merchants to sign up to its Approved Fire Door Centre scheme in a bid to overcome trade ignorance about the proper sale of fire doors and components.

The BWF move follows its recent survey which revealed 70% of merchants are unaware that fire door components have to be compatible with a specific fire door design to function correctly.

Merchants who become BWF fire door centres commit to stocking, selling and recommending the appropriate range of BWF Certifire approved products compatible with fire doors in stock.

They also have access to the federation’s technical advice team, staff training and receive the support of manufacturers who are members of the BWF Fire Door and Doorset Scheme.

An estimated 80% of all fire doors bought in the UK are sold through builders’ merchants.
