Cheshire Roof Trusses has manufactured and installed a striking gull wing roof for a Blackburn apartment building.
The company worked with Wolf Systems on the job at Lock Mill, a four-storey waterfront structure by Bryant Homes next to the Liverpool to Leeds canal.
The design involved 400 gull wing trusses with a 16m plus span. Each features a low pitch of just six degrees.
Covering the roof is marine plywood with a vapour barrier, 100mm Kingspan insulation and a1.5mm thick Sarnafil single ply membrane.
Due to exposed location of the site and inclusion of a 2.5m roof overhang, designers had to tie the wall plate and roof trusses to the third-storey level of the main structure.
Cheshire supplied and installed a further 400 conventional trussed rafters for three additional blocks of flats, all of which had linked, low angle pyramidal roofs.
