But all other construction areas struggled, with orders falling compared with the same period in the previous year.
Total construction orders rose by 4% between July-September 2006 compared with the same period last year, while public housing and private commercial orders rose by 49% and 42% respectively.
Areas that struggled most were infrastructure, which fell by 30% compared with the same period a year earlier, and private housing orders which dropped 12%.
