Hardwood sawmiller Ducerf of south Burgundy, France has pledged to plant one oak tree for every m3 of wood sold to its customers over the next five years.

Ducerf, the first French company to achieve the Pan European Forest Certification (PEFC) label, said the initiative aims to encourage customers and prospective customers to take part in the fight against CO2 by increasing their purchases of wood.

Partners in the operation are Naudet Seed Beds which will provide the oak seedlings; pupils at the Forest College of Burgundy who will plant and take care of them; the Regional Centre of Forest Property which will supervise administration of the project; and a communications agency which will promote the scheme.
