Build Center chain owner Wolseley UK has reported strong sales of engineered timber products over the past year.

The company, which has released an upbeat trading statement for the 11 months to June 30, said I-beam sales are growing and the timber frame sector is becoming a more important market.

Tom McElkerney, Wolseley UK’s national sales director of the Build brand, said: “Timber represents an important and growing part of this company’s business.”

He said I-beams are proving popular for their long-span ability and ease of installation for pipes and cables.

Wolseley plc’s trading statement shows its UK business experienced double-digit growth in sales and trading profit for the 11 months to June 30. Overall group business, including North America, saw a 15% rise in trading profit and a 10% growth in sales.

Wolseley plc’s annual results for the 12 months ending July 31 will be announced on September 26.
