The Timber Trade Federation (TTF) is sponsoring a Papua New Guinean forest specialist on the Institute of Wood Science (IWSc) Foundation Course.
Nicky Abiuda Mitir is a technical assistant at the Papua New Guinea Forest Research Institute and TTF chief executive John White said supporting him through the course would help build links with the country’s timber sector.
“Papua New Guinean logging has been criticised recently,” he said. “We’re pleased that, through this sponsorship, we can help to open up dialogue and cooperation with individuals and organisations that have the best interests of the country’s forests at heart.”
Mr Abiuda Mitir said he was grateful for the TTF’s support. “The course will help me bring a new level of understanding about wood and its technical capabilities. I hope I will be able to apply this new knowledge in the development of the industry in Papua New Guinea.”
