The Kaakkois-Suomi regional forestry centre said two-thirds of forest owners felling trees in the region had confirmed that replanting had been completed within the mandatory five-year period.

Half of the remaining third also confirm completion of replanting when followed up by the forestry centre. Others who have not established seedings in felled areas often need only “advice and encouragement” to complete the work, according to the forestry centre.

About 5,000 regeneration fellings are completed annually in the region, with only two to four cases resulting in fines due to failure to replant.
