The UK’s first professional training and individual certification scheme for the fire door industry is preparing for launch this autumn.

The Fire Door Inspection Scheme, a partnership between the British Woodworking Federation CERTIFIRE Scheme and the Guild of Architectural Ironmongers, will involve online training leading to a diploma in fire doors qualification.

“This has been a major undertaking with the coming together of two trade associations and the working group dedicating significant amounts of time,” said a BWF spokesperson.

Exova Warrington Certification has been working with FDIS to assess and approve fire door inspectors.

Branding has been developed, education modules for online training are being designed, the website and associated databases are in production and marketing materials are close to completion, a spokesman said.

Manufacturer and licensed convertor members in the CERTIFIRE scheme will be asked for details of their products for the FDIS database in the next few weeks.
