The UK fire door market is fit and healthy with strong sales being recorded, according to the British Woodworking Federation‘s (BWF) latest trends survey.

The report says 88% of fire door manufacturers grew sales or maintained the same levels during the first quarter of 2004, compared with the previous three months.

FD30 rated doors were the biggest sellers, accounting for 82% of doors sold by manufacturers. In the merchant sector, 92% of all timber fire doors sold during the past year were FD30 rated.

However, a lack of skilled staff is hampering progress, with 23% of manufacturers saying it represents one of their biggest problems this year.
