A £50,000 forestry project in Gateshead aims to promote healthier living by encouraging people to discover the benefits of woodlands for exercise and relieving stress.

The Chopwell Woodland Park project involves a GP referral scheme and a programme targeting schoolchildren, both designed to encourage healthy lifestyles. Aspects include guided walks and calorie counting woodland trails.

The initiative involves the Forestry Commission, Gateshead and Derwentside Primary Care Trusts and the Friends of Chopwell Wood.
