Woodland areas in Glasgow are to be developed, managed and maintained by a new Sustainable Woodland Management Unit – the first of its kind in Scotland.

A survey has revealed that nearly one-tenth of the city is covered by trees, with 600 individual woods covering 1,600ha.

Launching the unit, Scottish forestry minister Rhona Brankin said the task was to breathe new life into these woodlands, improve the environment and provide more opportunities for people to enjoy them.
