A Guernsey merchant is diversifying by launching an Ecohomes division.

Norman Piette, which operates the island’s only timber mill, will provide timber frame and structural insulated panel buildings to meet demand for more energy efficient homes.

The company has already supplied systems for several housing projects on Guernsey, which feature solar panels.

“Ecohomes is the next generation of construction and the eco-friendly solutions are continuously growing,” said managing director Clive Fenner.

“As with any project leaning towards the future, the possibilities are unending.”

He said Ecohomes would offer solar power solutions to make use of Guernsey’s good sunshine record, as well as heat recovery systems.

Norman Piette’s existing timber engineering operations include the manufacture of roof trusses, timber frame panels and Ecojoists.

The company’s history dates back to 1739.
