Indonesia’s forestry minister has claimed that illegal logging financiers enter the country using fake passports.

Minister Malam Sambat Kaban said most of the financiers come from Malaysia or China.

Mr Kaban identified one suspect as Lim Bo Hoen, who he said has often changed identities to evade arrest.

He said the problem could be solved if all related government agencies pooled their resources to prevent illegal logging barons from entering Indonesia.

The minister said most illegal timber felled was transported to Malaysia and China.

He also revealed that the names of several government officials, suspected of being involved in the illegal timber trade, had been forwarded to the police.
