Encouraging new UK timber product import figures show that predictions of little or no growth in the final quarter of 2010 may have been too pessimistic.

Downbeat projections of import levels were forecast after October showed a 7% decline in all imports of the main timber products. But November’s figures, released in the latest Timber Trade Federation statistics bulletin, have revealed a 13% improvements in volumes.

“Cumulatively, by the end of November 2010, import volume for all the main timber and panel products totalled 7.8 million m³, compared to 7.1 million m³,” the bulletin said.

It said hardwood plywood imports were strong during November.

By the end of November, year-on year import growth stood at 10%.
