Joinery giant JELD-WEN has become the thousandth company to take the Proskills “Sustainable Workforce Skills Pledge” , which commits it to focus on training.

Proskills, which is the timber industry Sector Skills Council, said JELD-WEN’s move underlined its awareness that “ a fully competent workforce is required to boost productivity, increase competitiveness and ensure business sustainability”.

“It shows recognition of the importance of skilled, motivated staff,” said chief executive Terry Watts.

Mike Ward, managing director of JELD-WEN, which employs 1,200 people, said taking the pledge showed the company’s “commitment to staff and dedication to improving through investing in employees’.
