The Solihull-based timber frame manufacturer says it is installing the truss and frame components machine as part of wider developments to keep pace with demand.
"We’re now serving the major house developers, as well as small to medium-sized builders, and need to increase output of trusses, joists and timber-frame components," said Wyckham Blackwell director David Himmons. "The saw will give us 50% more capacity."
The SC3 is the top model in Hundegger’s SC range. It can cut angles, compound angles and ‘bird mouths’, averaging 2,500 pieces per shift, and be tailored to specific needs, including addition of CNC aggregates.
"We wanted a machine with the versatility to be a workhorse as well as do the fancy stuff," said Mr Himmons. "And we believe Hundegger is leader in robotic arm, single blade machines."
Hundegger says the sale to Wyckham Blackwell highlights that the UK timber frame business, while remaining competitive, is growing and becoming increasingly sophisticated, opening the the way to its increased market presence.
"We can help the sector meet rising demand, and in a price-sensitive market, minimise costs and maximise output with machines that offer rapid set-up, are built to operator requirements and work with all recognised CAD software systems," said managing director Walter Farenschon.
Underlining its ambition in UK and Irish markets, where it has 26 machines installed, Hundegger also made its Timber Expo debut this year and recruited Chris Osborne, former managing director of Michael Weinig (UK) and Homag (Asia), to represent it. Recently it also took prospective customers to its German plant.
"The response from companies in timber and oak frame, but also trussed rafters, is excellent," said Mr Osborne. "Many are conscious of the need to upgrade and speed up manufacturing. They also want a seamless software connection from client, to office, to factory. Hundegger technology meets these requirements and allows greater flexibility for one offs and small orders."
Other Hundegger models targeted at the UK and Ireland include the K2i integrated components machining and Robot-Drive CNC centres and new five-axis Turbo-Drive saw.
Mr Osborne reports that another UK SC3 sale is close to completion, with orders for more machines expected soon.
