Handling of forest product cargoes at the Port of London grew by 1.9% to 37,000 tonnes during 2004, according to the Port of London Authority’s annual review.
Tonnage increased to 1.99 million tonnes, while total cargo handling (all types of goods) rose by 2.3 million tonnes to 53.3 million tonnes, making 2004 the port’s most successful year since 1998. The PLA’s turnover grew to £37.8m.
Chief executive Richard Everitt said: “The growth in trade across Port of London terminals last year demonstrates the port’s importance to the economy of London and the south-east for exporters and importers.”
