Mortgage lenders tour Barratt timber frame factory

Mortgage lenders have toured the Barratt Developments’ Oregon timber frame homes factory.

A group of mortgage lenders and valuers including TSB Bank, Lloyds Banking Group and Nationwide Building Society, toured the £45m factory in Derby.

They saw how raw materials are taken from one end of the 200,000-square foot facility and placed on a giant conveyor belt, where wall and floor panels and roof trusses are put together by a combination of machines and skilled craftsmen.

The factory represents part of Barratt’s plan to boost the number of homes it builds using modern methods of construction to 30% by 2025. The factory is currently able to deliver 1,000 homes a year and aims to produce 4,000 a year.

Once the factory is up to full capacity, 25 timber frame kits a day will roll-off the production line on to trucks - leaving behind almost zero waste.

Barratt acquired Oregon in 2019. The business has another site in Selkirk, Scotland.
