The area of certified woodland in the UK is 1.3 million ha, about 45% of the total UK woodland area, according to the latest Forestry Commission statistics.

“Forestry Facts and Figures 2007”, an annual publication, also says about 8.6 million green tonnes of UK timber (roundwood) was delivered to primary wood processors and others in 2006.

Imported wood products (roundwood, sawn timber and wood-based panels) totalled about 12 million m3 last year.

The publication is available on the Forestry Commission’s site at www.forestry.gov.uk/statistics.
