After several years of research Mercantile International Group plc has developed a simple hardwood conservatory panel system aimed at the conservatory fabricators’ market.

The Macclesfield hardwood agent has commissioned a Malaysian factory to make components to its own specification. Sales director David Speck explained: ‘We were well aware of the failings in other systems and the need for a modern system incorporating up to date technologies in weatherproofing and security.

‘With today’s emphasis on speed, the system is designed to allow for factory glazing and even finishing.’

On site a patented jointing system fixes the 750mm wide panels, which are available in dwarf wall and full height, together and to the cill. The panels have a sliding keep in one jamb and fixed spigots on the other. When the shaped spigots locate into the keep they pull the panels together.

Mr Speck said: ‘The biggest selling hardwood conservatories in the UK still only have basic casement stays on the windows and single mortice locks on the doors, where PVCu has been using multipoint locks for years.

‘New woodworking technologies have allowed us to use many of the benefits previously only found in PVCu products. This, together with our own ideas, has developed into what we believe will become an industry standard.’
